Selling out our world heritage

The canal walls and bridges in Amsterdam are in horrible condition. Out of 200 kilometers of canal walls, 135 kilometers have to be restored. And out of 850 bridges, 750 are not up to code. The city council has decided to restore the historical canal walls with prefab: brick glued to concrete. Even though the Amsterdam Canal District is part of UNESCO World Heritage, the city council feels the canal walls aren’t a monument.
