Garbage gets dumped illegally every day in Amsterdam. Airbnb tourists have no idea that rubbish only gets collected on specific days in each neighborhood. The city wide system to collect our garbage was created based on less then 1 million locals and around 4 million tourists a year. Now it has to deal with the garbage that 42 million tourists and counting leave behind. A lot of them are what we call cheap tourists. They don’t go to restaurants or cafés but buy food and drinks in grocery stores or fast food chains, and consume them on the street. Creating a lot of annoyance for the locals in terms of noise and leaving their trash behind. And once garbage gets thrown on the streets, it only attracts more rubbish. We often spot birds, rats and other vermin dining on it in our streets.
